Bryology, Mycology & Phycology

 Description of project:

On the spot training, including demonstrations, practicals, literature study and excursions, of training in specific aspects of modern morphological and molecular phylogenetic and ecological research on mosses and/or fungi. Special attention can be paid to morphological character analyses using herbarium and fresh material, the use of specific DNA markers, an array of phylogenetic methods, state-of-the-art Tree of Life hypotheses on major clades of mosses and macrofungi, species diagnosis and plot studies.
Duration of training:
1-2 weeks To be discussed with mentor
Training period:
October-January
Target Audience:
for trainees at PhD or Postdoc level Individual training based on face-to-face and self-activation in practicals
Practical experiences:
- Taxon sampling and identification - Morphological character analyses - DNA sequencing - Collecting and handling herbarium and fresh material - Using collection information - Phylogeny reconstruction - Spatial analyses
Lectures:
- Introduction to the morphology and phylogeny of each of the clades - Introduction to the floristic diversity and ecology - Introduction to the morphology and anatomy
