 Description of project: 

Development of Collections Care strategy: - Risk and Agents of Deterioration - Ethics in conservation. Collection Care Documentation (including database use): - Surveys and assessments - Collection Assessment - Specimen assessment. Health and Safety: - Specimen Hazards. Management strategies and the museum Environment (including IPM): - Monitoring the museum environment - Control of the museum environment - Establishing and identifying environmental standards and programmes. Storage, Handling and Control: - Types of storage - Specimen handling - Packaging and transport. Remedial Conservation: - Adhesives and Consolidants - Gap fillers and specimen supports - Cleaning (including Laser cleaning). Specimen conservation issues for objects on display

Course ideal for technicians or those responsible for collections All types of Natural History Material will be included in the study
Practical experiences: 
This will form a large part of the programme and will help students to gain first hand experience of conservation issues for collections and how to minimise risks when handling and using collections.
Lectures: 
Illustrated talks on a range of topics associated with collections preservation.
