Cybertaxonomy and biodiversity information with special emphasis on geospatial related data (Novice or Advanced Training)

Description of project:
Training on practical implementation of international and European Standards in terms of Biodiversity Information and their standardised internet publication in the context of scientific research in Taxonomical Facilities.

Duration of training:

  • Novice Training: 2 weeks (this extended course offers more in-depth theoretical sessions and more time for practical exercises, it also deals with digital libraries and collections management)
  • Advanced Training: 1 week (recommended for advanced trainees only)

To be discussed with host institution

Target audience:
MSc students, PhD students as well as early career researchers

Lectures: 

  • Databasing (theory & practice)
  • Novice: GIS extensive (theory & practice) - Advanced: GIS (theory & practice)
  • Data cleaning and quality checking (theory & practice)
  • Data publication (theory & practice)
  • Virtual Libraries (Optional in Advanced Training)
  • Collections Management (Optional in Advanced Training)

Registration fee:

  • Novice (two-week) Training: 500 euro for students and researchers (or 2500 euro for persons coming from private companies and industry).
  • Advanced (one-week) Training: 250 euro for students and researchers (or 1250 euro for persons coming from private companies and industry).

The course will be organized depending on sufficient demand.
