Description of project:
This training will focus on mammals taxonomy of Southeast Asia with regards to biogeography and insularisation (gigantism and dwarfism). The training is divided in two points: 1. A review of extant primates of which the taxonomy is very complicated and always changing. The reasons for this perturbation will be clarified. The second point will deal with identification of fossil primates which are of first interest in terms of palaeoenvironments and biogeography. Mainly practical, this course is built on the important quantity of fossils collected by Eugene Dubois in this part of the world and which are stored today in Naturalis museum, Leiden.
