The aim of this project is to train a student in basic taxonomy of biting midges, including those of medical importance. Practical training in laboratory will concern the following questions: - Mounting on microscope slides - Morphology of all stages, with special attention paid for the diagnostic characters - Natural history, ecology, distribution, classifications, etc. Biting midges of veterinary and medical importance. - Determinations of subfamilies, tribes, genera and species of European fauna - Methods of collecting
