Vegetation Survey Training Course

 Description of project: 

The course provides an opportunity to learn vegetation survey methodologies and techniques for practical applications. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew has a long history in vegetation surveys in many parts of the world and it is ideally placed to offer this kind of course. Taught by staff from Kew and its partners, the course comprises lectures on: - Fundamentals of vegetation classification and characterisation - Introductory GIS, Remote sensing, fundamentals and use of GPS - Survey methods and basics of mapping - Sampling techniques and design for environmental studies - Importance and use of local knowledge and field soil identification

Practical components will take place at Kew culminating in a two day vegetation survey in the Ashdown Forest, Sussex
